The movie has been playing continuously for 700 weeks at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre, creating a record of its own. It was Aditya Chopra’s first film and told the story of Indians living outside the country for the first time in a mainstream Bollywood film. The film filmed in London and Punjab is a romantic drama and included typical Bollywood elements, but owed its stupendous success to the fresh twist it brought to the boy-meets-girl story.
The music of the film composed by Jatin Lalit topped charts and the movie won 10 Filmfare awards and that included best actor and best actress trophies for Shahrukh and Kajol. It certainly is also a bechmark in Bollywood for all those who wish to make romantic films!
