Bollywood-themed event helps raise thousands - SLIDESHOW

A BOLLY good time was had by all when US entertainers flew in to Sheffield to perform at a charity fundraiser. The Bollywood-themed event at the Sheffield Park Hotel was organised by Pushpa Venkatraman to raise funds for the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks.
Around 250 people attended the event and helped raise a fantastic £9,000.
Pushpa, who works as an NHS business manager at Brinsworth Medical Centre in Rotherham, but is originally from Mumbai said: "It started out as a little family idea in our lounge and grew into this grand scale event.
"Watching the terror attacks really affected me and my family when we saw it on the news and we wanted to do something to help."
Among the entertainers were Asksahy Hari, 17, and Smita Ravichandram, 16, from the United States who performed to a medley of Bollywood tunes.
Megha Vijh, 12, put on a show of traditional Bharatnatyam dance while Pallavi Sarin, 16, gave a display of Kathak dance.
The event in Meadowhead was beamed around the world via the internet - thanks to Mrs Venkatraman's son - so the parents of the young performers could watch the show.
Guests enjoyed a champagne reception and sumptuous Indian buffet before sitting back to enjoy the entertainment.
South Yorkshire Police assistant chief constable Max Sahota, who was in Mumbai on the night of the attacks, told of his experiences and what the police are doing to combat terrorism.
Mrs Venkatraman said: "It was a wonderful evening and I never imagined it would be such a success.
She thanked all her supporters and sponsors especially: CVC Event services, Chandi Stage and Table Attire who provided their services free.
